Fact 1: The pig is the last animal in the Chinese Zodiac. It represents fortune, honesty, happiness, and virility (I seriously wish that I was a Pig, but instead I am a Tiger, which is almost as cool as a Pig).
Fact 2: Pigs are seriously intelligent. It is widely accepted that they are smarter than dogs, some primates, and human children three years and younger. They are super curious and insightful about their surroundings.
Fact 3: Pigs are social animals. They form close bonds with other pigs. They enjoy close contact and like to sleep with each other.
Fact 4: Pigs are extremely peaceful animals and rarely show signs of aggression. The only exception is when a mother pig feels like her piglets are in danger.
Fact 5: Pigs have an awesome sense of smell. The large, round disk of cartilage at the tip of the snout is connected to the muscle that gives it extra flexibility and strength for rooting in the ground.
Fact 6: Winston Churchill once said this famous quote about pigs: "Dogs look up to man. Cats look down to man. Pigs look us straight in the eye and see an equal." So true.
Fact 7: Wild pigs play an important role in managing ecosystems and maintaining biodiversity. By rooting, the create areas for new plants. They also spread fruit plants by dispersing their seeds.
Fact 8: There are many stories that involve a pig saving a human. Two examples of this are a pig named Priscilla and a pig named Pru. Priscilla saved a young boy from drowning, and Pru pulled her owner out of bog.
Fact 9: Despite popular belief, pigs are, in fact, extremely clean animals. They organize their nests and use the bathroom away from their sleeping and eating areas.
Fact 10: There are about 2 billion pigs in the world, and despite their size, pigs have unusually small lungs.
In the end, pigs are some pretty amazing animals. It's hard to believe that people will actually eat these innocent, adorable creatures.

P.S. I'm not sure why, but I felt like including a picture of a piglet with a strawberry. The weird thing is I hate strawberries with a burning passion. I have really bad memories of them from when I was young, but those memories were not as scarring as my memories involving bananas...
