Happy Pi Day

Today is National Pi Day in honor of everyone's favorite irrational number, 3.14159. Surprisingly enough, no one has really been like happy pi day or have a pi. Even in math, we only mentioned it in fleeting. Oh well. No one likes math to begin with, but it's the only decent mathematical day that doesn't disgust me (maybe because it sometimes involves food). Here's some facts about pi and pi day:

1. A Japanese man claims to have memorized 111,700 digits of pi. It took him about sixteen hours to memorize them by assigning each number to a different symbol.

2. This is pi in action.

3. We currently know quadrillions of pi digits which is more than we need to know. Any job that requires knowledge of pi only uses the first fifteen digits.

4. Pi has it's own literary form called pilish. Pilish is where the number of letters in each successive word match the digits of pi. Micheal Keith, a mathematician, wrote an entire novella following the 10, 000 digits of pi.

5. When looking at pi in the mirror, 3.14, it looks like the word "pie" (yummy)

P.S. Albert Einstein was born on pi day (the irony).
